Our lifesaving community welcome all to the fitness, fun and thrill of knowing how to be at one and in total control with the elements.
Developing strong swimming ability, rescue techniques, equipment handling, and practical response skills through hands-on training in real environments.
Understanding beach and ocean conditions, water safety, risk assessment, first aid, and lifesaving principles to support safe and effective decision-making.
Building calmness, discipline, and confidence, while learning to take responsibility, support others, and lead by example in lifesaving situations.
To become a member
Surf Lifesaving Clubs teach kids from age 8 vital water safety, rescue skills, and teamwork—lessons that save lives and last a lifetime.
Our nipper 7-13 years
This is known as our nipper category. Children will learn surf safety, basic lifesaving skills, surf and beach sports all whilst having fun!
Our youth 13–19 years
From representing clubs at regional and national surf lifesaving sports competitions to being qualified lifeguards and part of beach patrols.

About Surf Life Saving GB (SLSGB)
Surf Life Saving Great Britain (SLSGB) is the UK’s national surf lifesaving charity, supporting volunteer-led clubs that promote beach safety, lifesaving skills, and active lifestyles. With 70+ clubs and around 7,000 volunteers across the UK, SLSGB is also part of a global network through the International Life Saving Federation, working in over 40 countries to prevent drowning and protect coastal communities.
The Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club is officially affiliated to the Surf Life Saving Association of Great Britain.

How to Become a Membe
Becoming a member of the Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club is a great opportunity for children and young people to develop confidence, skills, and a strong connection to the ocean in a safe and supportive environment.
- Membership is open to different age groups, with activities and training tailored accordingly.
- All members must successfully complete a swimming assessment, appropriate to their age and ability, to ensure water safety.
Membership Requirements
Swimming Assessments

Your child must be able to swim 100 metres in 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
They must be 9 years old.Applicants aged 7 or 8 may try out if they meet the swimming requirements and are confident in the sea.
For the Junior Training Squad (ages 10–12), swimmers must complete 200metres in less than 5 minutes.
Club Membership Fee
- To become a member of SLSGB you will be asked to make a yearly donation of £30.
Login through the website https://slsgb.justgo.com - The club membership fee this year is £65. The fee includes 20 weeks of Saturday training sessions, SLSGB course fees.
What to Bring
- Swim & Water Gear|Swimsuit、Goggles、Wetsuit、Wetsuit boots、Thermal gloves.
- Personal Items|Towel、Water bottle、SPF 30+ sunscreen、Hat.
- Club Identification|For safety and identification purposes, members are required to purchase a club cap and club T-shirt.
Optional (Parent Provided)|Parents may provide suitable snacks, drinks, and additional warm clothing depending on the member’s needs and weather conditions.
