Surf life-saving Nippers shine at pool championship
A surf life-saving club's young members triumphed at a pool championships event.
On February 9, Sidmouth Surf Life saving Club's 22-strong team of Nippers (under-9s to under-13s)
competed at the Devon SLS Pool Championships, held at Tarka Leisure Centre, Barnstaple.
The competition involved variety of individual, pair and team-based events.
Despite facing stiff competition from North Devon teams that had three to four times as many
competitors, Sidmouth emerged with an impressive tally of two gold, 14 silver and four bronze medals.
This them achievement secured an outstanding second place overall, based on points per competitor.
They narrowly missed the top Sidmouth SLSC U11, U12 and U13 Nippers at the Devon SLS Pool Championships
spot to Woolacombe but outperformed Croyde, Bideford and Saunton Sands.
The team Under-9 and members Under-10 raced in the morning, points, accumulating 121 while the under-11,
the Under-12, and Under-13 members competed in the afternoon, raising the club's overall total to 831 points.
Special commendation was given to first-time competitors Sacha E (Under-9). Nieve F, Ruby M-M, Max A (Under-10),
Edward F (Under-12), and Oly R (Under-13).
The club's success was attributed to the determination and enthusiasm displayed during their weekly training sessions
throughout the autumn and winter.
The entire team is now looking forward to another successful beach season, set to begin in May.
